Jesse Bullington: IMG Abash'd the Devil Stood

I don't believe in evil. It's a word I use, certainly, because words are shortcuts and we all take the short way round from time to time, but that's... Continue »

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Everybody wants more time, which is why on Discworld only the experts can manage it — the venerable Monks of History who store it and pump it from where it's wasted, like underwater (how much time does a codfish really need?), to places like cities, where busy denizens lament, "Oh where does the time go?"

While everyone always talks about slowing down, one young horologist is about to do the unthinkable. He's going to stop. Well, stop time that is, by building the world's first truly accurate clock. Which means esteemed History Monk Lu-Tze and his apprentice Lobsang Ludd have to put on some speed to stop the timepiece before it starts. For if the Perfect Clock starts ticking, Time — as we know it — will end. And then the trouble will really begin...

Review:

"Philosophical humor of the highest order." Kirkus Reviews

Review:

"[T]he newest appealing installment of the Discworld series....You don't need to catch all the in-jokes to enjoy the fun." Publishers Weekly

Review:

"Think J.R.R. Tolkien with a sharper, more satiric edge." Houston Chronicle

Review:

"Pratchett's latest Discworld novel features the author's hilariously acerbic commentaries on time, history, and the end of the world along with the return of favorite characters from previous series installments. Consistently clever and engagingly topical..." Library Journal

Review:

"This is a treat for anyone who likes humorous fantasy....And how can readers resist a book in which the world is saved by the awesome power of chocolate?" School Library Journal

Review:

"For Pratchett fans, a new Discworld book is always cause for rejoicing, and this addition to the series is splendid....His fantasy writing is witty, irreverent, and wildly imaginative....Allusive and very British, [the Discworld books] are like chocolate: If one loves it, one cannot imagine life without it." VOYA

Synopsis:

PRAISE FOR THE TRUTH: "Readers who've never visited Discworld before may find themselves laughing out loud, even as they cheer on the good guys, while longtime fans are sure to call this Pratchett's best one yet."

Synopsis:

In Discworld, Time is a resource managed by the highly capable Monks of History. Ironically, the construction of the world's first truly accurate clock threatens to stop Time altogether--and then all the trouble will really begin. (May)

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels don’t have to be read in order, they just have to be read. A perfect blend of Douglas Adams-paced sci-fi, Vonnegut-esque philosophy and a whole new brand of footnotes, Pratchett’s work is quite a ride.
