How to Build Small Barns and Outbuildings

by Monte Burch

How to Build Small Barns and Outbuildings Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Building your own barns and outbuildings offers many benefits, perhaps the most obvious being the money you can save. About half the costs of any building project is the labor, and, by doing it yourself, you can construct your building more economically, or even put up a larger building on the same budget. But another important benefit of building it yourself is the satisfaction that comes from improving your own landscape and surroundings. A well-constructed barn, shed, or outbuilding can be a source of pride for many years — and will also enhance the value of your property. In "How to Build Small Barns & Outbuildings," Monte Burch takes readers step by step through the fundamentals of general construction — from planning and laying out a site to do-it-yourself instructions on framing, roofing, wiring, plumbing, and much more.

Synopsis:

This book takes the mystery out of small-scale construction. Monte Burch guides readers through the fundamentals of general construction — from planning and laying out a site to framing, roofing, wiring, plumbing, and much more. Projects, which are offered with complete plans and instructions, include a pole barn, a horse barn, a greenhouse, a garden shed, a workshop, an equipment shed, a home office, an add-on garage, a guest house, a roadside stand, an insulated dog house, and more. With Burch's help, readers can create beautiful outbuildings, increase their property value, and save a lot of money in the process — all with the satisfaction of doing it themselves.

Synopsis:

Constructing your own small barn, shed, or utility structure will improve the value and appearance of your property whether you have one acre or a hundred. Plus, building it yourself can save as much as half the cost. Now expert help for the do-it-yourselfer arrives with How to Build Small Barns & Outbuildings, the long-awaited sequel to the classic Garden Way Publishing bestseller Building Small Barns, Sheds & Shelters (more than 200,000 copies sold). In his new book, Monte Burch begins by taking the reader through all the basics of construction, from planning to finishing--both inside and out. This is followed with more than 20 new designs and projects appropriate for both rural and suburban homeowners, including a livestock shelter, add-on garage, small guest house, and home workshop. How to Build Small Barns & Outbuildings offers projects with multi-use flexibility, so you can tailor your project to your specific needs. For example, there is an all-purpose barn design that can be adapted to serve multiple functions, as well as a combination greenhouse/woodshed and a home office/garage/guest-house.
