I bought a copy of this book in 1993 while stationed and living in Injurlik, Turkey. Scotch & Holy Water is a must read for anyone who has ever lived in the region or is planning to visit.
The stories are so funny you won't believe they're true, but trust me they are.
Frequently books and programs lead American's assume that cultural differences between us and other countries are slight, and that we are all striving for the same things in similar ways. Not true. Scotch and Holy Water exposes situations of bribery and other taboos in the most hilarious way imaginable. John Tumpane, thanks so much for taking the time to write about this unique lifestyle. I will always remember living in Turkey, but your book will keep my memories fresh. Scotch & Holy Water is a personal favorite and a permanent in my personal library.
