What an excellent story written with great craft. Sparks, an Englishman, writes with all of the emotion and descriptive powers of a true U.S. Westerner. His description of Montana make you feel like you're there.

He has used the title "The Divide", to describe divisions of many layers of human life and nature. He draws each character as carefully as he does the land so that instantly, I felt really engaged in the character and cared very much about each one of them.

Of course, the youngest of the family, Josh, turned out to be the most admirable of them all. You watch him mature from a needy little boy to a confident and knowing young man.

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and recommend it.
