Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

The center of a fiery debate about who really speaks for equality and for most American women, this book provides well-reasoned arguments against many feminists' reliance on misleading, politically motivated "facts" about how women are victimized in this country.

I remember when the Women’s Liberation movement transformed itself to Feminism. A rose by any other name, right? Not even close. Women’s Lib was a continuation of the humanist and idealistic tradition that demanded equal rights and opportunity for all people under law. Fair-minded people, men and women, vigorously worked together to support these worthy goals. Laws were changed, doors opened and today, more women than men attend college at every level. Then a new generation took over and brought with it a starkly different set of values and goals. For the new feminists, equality of opportunity has been replaced by power for women by any means. Humanism and fair play for all have supplanted by obsession with victimhood and hatred of all things male. Not surprisingly, as of 1999, fewer than 20% of U.S. women considered themselves feminists. If you haven’t been paying attention to the deeds and statements of the new feminists, you should. To her credit, Christina Hoff Sommers has paid close attention and has braved the vitriolic backlash of this radical minority to write Who Stole Feminism. Sommers exposes the phony statistics created by “feminist researchers” used to obtain lucrative grants, attack free speech and “transform” school curricula. She describes the strong-arm tactics employed to create a climate of fear the workplace and intimidate university professors and administrators to abandon intellectual integrity in favor of PC indoctrination. Sunlight is the best antiseptic and the feminists are extremely unhappy with this book. Buy it and you’ll know why.
