First of all, let me say that Alex Ross's artwork is just absolutely gorgeous. I can't even imagine how long it must have taken to execute this graphic novel. And the plotline is almost equally good. Basically, it's set in the near future, when superheroes have proliferated far beyond the original crop. Supervillains are basically a thing of the past, but this has translated into bored superhumans endangering normal humans with their petty rivalries. Many superheroes consider themselves gods, far above the laws of men. The old school superheroes have dealt with this in different ways; some, like Superman, have retreated from the world and washed their hands of the situation. Others, like Batman, have ruthlessly expanded their special brand of vigilante justice, with questionable results. Meanwhile, the normal progress of humankind has all but halted. Pressure is building, and the fate of the world may hang in the balance.

It's a really great story, and honestly, you don't even need to be all that familiar with the DC characters and mythos to enjoy it fully. If you understand the iconic natures of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, you're probably set.

Alex Ross - Mark Waid, Ross is knowing for painting the most vivid imagery ever brought to comics, Waid known to write some of the most compelling and moving stories of our time. Combine these talents with the coming of Armageddon in the DC universe, and the result is an unmissable book, considered by many to be Ross's finest work. Do not miss this...
