The Terror: A Novel
by Dan Simmons

Sebastien's Comments:
"Sebastien's comments:
"Dan Simmons is a great writer who's able to aptly write in any genre. He's written great science fiction, great mysteries, some comic novels and, especially, great horror....I just wish Simmons will finally get the recognition he deserves with this extraoridinary book."" (read more)

The Woman in White
by Wilkie Collins

Carol's Comments:
"Carol's comments:
"Mentioned by Nora Ephron in I Feel Bad About My Neck and Diane Setterfield in The 13th Tale, The Woman in White comes with good recommendation -- and is a great read. It is, perhaps, the first 'page turner.' A wonderful discovery for anyone who enjoys being transported to another time and place to become totally caught up in mystery and melodrama. It's no wonder the book has been in print continuously for 145 years."" (read more)

Deliver the Vote: A History of Election Fraud, an American Political Tradition 1742-2004
by Tracy Campbell

Selma's Comments:
"Selma's comments:
"Tracy Campbell has written the most important book on our gradual disenfranchisement....His thoughtful research into past elections is fresh and very readable, and his account of the election of 2000 reveals the importance of the overseas military ballots for the first time ? to my knowledge. It might even explain the President's insistance on sending 20,000 more of our young people into harm's way."" (read more)

Little Children
by Tom Perrotta

"Coni's comments:
"It covers people in their early thirties in suburbia who have become trapped by their lives and come to find they don't know the people they are married to. While the affair storyline isn't really anything new, it was completely interesting to read. by Rob Sheffield

Jana's Comments:
"Jana;s comments:
"This book had me from the first sentence. I had laughed out loud and shed tears by the end of the first chapter. I started reading it on a Friday evening and by Friday night when I was out with my friends, after hearing a song that zoomed me back to high school, I was trying to explain to a 22 year-old new acquaintance (I am well over 22), what a mix tape was and the beauty of them. I told her to read this book. It was an inspiring piece of writing that makes me appreciate my loves (my husband and music) all the more."" (read more)

"Brian's comments:
"Larry David, creator and star of the HBO series, explains why we love to watch him kvetch so much. It has scripts and notes from the episodes, but the real meat is in the behind the scenes stuff. You can find out where Larry came from, how the series is put together, and learn about the cast. Of course, the big question is also addressed: is Larry really as neurotic as he seems in the show? Check out what his real wife has to say. David also shares interesting thoughts about his work on Seinfeld and explains what's going on with his teeth. "I am drawn to subtle lines -- the labyrinth between obscurantism and simplicity of poems like the ones in this collection. This little gem is not only a treat for his ears (using different voices for the characters) but he also loves the illustrations. He loves the story of the disagreement between the boy and girl and how it comes to a peaceful resolution, no need for mom to interpret, it's pretty self-explanatory. Kjirstin's Comments:
"Kjirstin's comments:
"As a huge fan of Children's Literature, I approached Fablehaven without much hope. It was written by an American (not usually a good thing) and he is young (usually a terrible thing) and it is his first book (three strikes against it before I opened the first page.) I couldn't have been more wrong. Fablehaven is a treat from the start. Characters are believable and present day to the point you feel you've met them in line at the supermarket. I won't ruin it for you by telling the tale, but you WILL be swept away. I am eager for the next book to come out, and absolutely thrilled that my sons loved it, read it themselves, and claimed to like it better than the previous family favorite, Harry Potter! Five stars are not enough for this wonderful, multi-generational book."" (read more)

Indecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for Hire
by Sarah Katherine Lewis

C.'s Comments:
"C. Foley's comments:
"Sarah Katherine Lewis is wickedly funny and whip-smart....Sure, you get to learn about all of the mundane details of what it is like to work in the sex industry, but more importantly you get to laugh along with her about some of her seedier adventures, cringe along with her when she's repulsed by the work itself, and cheer along with her when she describes the strength and nobility of several of her fellow sex workers that she holds in esteem....Much like David Sedaris' writing, it isn't the subject matter that makes the reading so compelling -- it is her voice, humor, smarts, and unique way of looking at the world which shapes her storytelling in such a way that feels so comfortably familiar yet completely refreshing.""
