The New Lasagna Cookbook: A Crowd-Pleasing Collection of Recipes from Around the World for the Perfect One-Dish Meal
by Maria Bruscino Sanchez

Dee's Comments:
"I love this cookbook! I found it at my local library and I kept renewing my checkout until I ran out renews. Great basic recipes for pasta and sauces, which can be utilized in any Italian cooking inspiration you may have. Fabulous lasagna compilations, using combos and twists I hadn't dreamed of. Takes the one-dish meal to a whole new level." (read more)

Mary Kathryn's Comments:
"I loved this book. I laughed and cried, sometimes simultaneously. I'm not big on romance books, but this is not typical of that genre. It's real and believable, the characters very alive." (read more)

Talk Dirty French: Beyond Merde: The Curses, Slang, and Street Lingo You Need to Know When You Speak Francais (Talk Dirty)
by Emmanuel Tichelli and Alexis Munier

Catherine's Comments:
"Très bien. Up until now I have had a limited vocabulary with my francophone friends in Singapore. "Tu est une salope", has been the limit of my retaliation when they talk about me thinking that I do not understand. I usually can follow but am not quick to reply, merde. I can now practice some more witty retaliations. Je comprends mais je ne peut pas reprondre." (read more)

Elephant Winter
Elephant Winter
by Kim Echlin

Winifred Beam's Comments:
"Elephant Winter, a novel based in Ontario, Canada, has several story lines: the relationship between an adult daughter and her terminally ill mother, the interaction of the daughter with some of the mother's next door neighbors -- a pack of elephants, their keeper and an elephant researcher, a pathologist-veterinarian, who interacts with not only the mother and the daughter but also with the elephants, which cause him to both fear and obsess -- and the uses and interplays among "elephant language," English and Church/Medieval Latin.... I found this book to be not only intellectually stimulating but also emotionally gripping in ways that few books recently have been. My long-standing interest in parallels of communication and cultural behaviors of other animals and humans, in particular of household pets, Bonobo apes and elephants, gave this book special interest to me. Evocative, clear and direct writing, too. A good read." (read more)

The Gate House
The Gate House
by Nelson DeMille

Edward's Comments:
"It is difficult to assign a genre to a book like this. It is certainly contemporary literature but also has a strong thriller aspect to it. Well, whatever! It's a damn good book. This sequel to ... The Gold Coast, takes place ten years later. John Sutter, the protagonist returns from London to Long Island's Gold Coast to attend the funeral and process the will of Ethel Allard, a long-time servant/employee of his ex-in-laws, the Stanhope family.... The plot while not particularly complicated is still very detailed.... The story unfolds in a somewhat leisurely manner with a number of sub-plots to keep things interesting.... I've read most of DeMille's output and he never disappoints." (read more)

The Courage to Be Free: Discover Your Original Fearless Self
The Courage to Be Free: Discover Your Original Fearless Self
by Guy Finley

Vicky's Comments:
"Guy Finley, in his gentle but powerful way, reminds you of your original self -- the you that is free from fear, worry and pain -- the person you were meant to be. By reliving the past, you're powerless to change a present misunderstanding, Finley teaches, which frees you to have the courage to be your authentic self. It's not about being right, but instead living as a friend of truth. Life never travels the same roads twice, Finley says, and as I read this compact book, I found myself slowing down, realizing that rushing doesn't serve who I am. Finley gently points a finger at my heart, reminding me to seek myself within." (read more)

Songs for the Butcher's Daughter
Songs for the Butcher's Daughter
by Peter Manseau

Sharon's Comments:
"Songs for the Butcher's Daughter enchanted me from the first page. I've read and loved many of the authors who are compared with its author, Peter Manseau: Nicole Krauss, Nathan Englander, Amy Bloom. Though Manseau's book is original, he travels in good literary company. I loved the story so much that I recommended it to my book group. So many topics are addressed in this book, and one that stands out is how to translate authentically, staying true to the original voice without being clumsy in the new language.... After you read this story, you will want to read it again, savoring every moment. Then you must also read Outwitting History by Aaron Lansky, the true story of the National Yiddish Book Center." Ella in Bloom
Ella in Bloom
by Shelby Hearon

Nancy's Comments:
"This is one of my favorite Hearon novels about family ties. As a girl in Austin, Texas, Ella always played second fiddle to her older, perfect, piano-playing sister. She felt second best and second rate, so she escaped into an early marriage. Twenty-five years later, in the wake of her sister's accidental death, the now-widowed Ella tries to reinvent herself into a genteel lady in the eyes of her demanding mother. But her untidy life in New Orleans with her teenage daughter flowers every time she visits Austin. Which life does Ella really want?" (read more)

Zero History
by William Gibson

Pamela's Comments:
"William Gibson brings us inside a cool, frightening world that is something like the one we live in. Just this week I saw an article in the newspaper about an iphone piloted drone, which is eerily like a piece of technology in this book. This book reads like a thriller you might pick up to pass the time on a long flight, only it's much better. I'm still pondering themes and characters weeks later." (read more)

World without End
World without End
by Ken Follett

Jude's Comments:
"I enjoyed Pillars of the Earth a great deal and I had mixed emotions about picking up the sequel: excitement about re-engaging with the communities of Kingsbridge and Shiring, but also hesitation that the quality might not continue. Follett delivered spectacularly! I couldn't put it down and my only complaint is that there isn't a third book. This is definitely a must read for anyone who enjoys medieval history, or just a great novel with profound characters." (read more)
