What happened to the Rocket eBook device?
The Rocket eBook device is now replaced by two new generation models manufactured by RCA: the REB 1100 and REB 1200. Earlier this year, Gemstar TV Guide International acquired the former companies that had produced the Rocket eBook and the Softbook. Gemstar now licenses its eBook technology to consumer electronics manufacturers like RCA.

What is the Gemstar eBook™ by RCA?
The RCA REB 1100 and the RCA REB 1200 are both dedicated eBook devices. Both devices go on sale in December 2000 and are manufactured by RCA. eBook content for these devices is sold by Powells.com under the Gemstar eBook™ format. Both are portable and allow you to carry up to a maximum of 150 books (with memory upgrade).

Can I still buy Rocket Editions for my Rocket eBook device? What are they now called?
Yes! If you already own a Rocket eBook device, you can continue to buy electronic titles from Powells.com to read on your Rocket eBook, just as you always have. Formerly called Rocket Editions, we still have all our original titles and now call them eBook Editions. eBook Editions can be read on the Rocket eBook, the RCA REB 1100, or the RCA REB 1200 devices.

Will I download eBook Editions the same way?
If you have a Rocket eBook device, you will continue to download electronic titles the same as usual.

If you have an RCA brand Gemstar eBook™ device, after you purchase an eBook Edition, it will be automatically delivered to your Personal Gemstar eBook Shelf that was established when you registered your device. To pick up your eBook Edition, simply connect your device to any standard (analog) telephone line. Your device will automatically dial up to your Personal eBook Shelf and you can download the eBook Edition. If you are having difficulty picking up an eBook Edition from your Personal eBook Shelf please contact Gemstar customer support at this number:

Can I transfer my existing eBook Editions (Rocket Editions) to my Personal eBook Shelf at Gemstar?
Yes, absolutely.

REB 1100
If you are upgrading from the Rocket eBook to the REB 1100 and wish to transfer all titles from your Rocket eBook account to the REB 1100, you will go into the registration screen of the new REB 1100 and select the registration option indicating that you already have a Rocket eBook account. Follow the screen prompts and your account will then be accessible to your new REB 1100.

If you wish to continue purchasing eBooks for your Rocket eBook after you have transferred your account to the REB 1100, you will need to contact Gemstar eBook Customer Service at (800) 386-7389 to set up another account for your Rocket eBook.

REB 1200
If you want to transfer titles from your SoftBook to the REB 1200, you will need to contact Gemstar eBook Customer Service at (800) 386-7389 to assist with this process.
