Nine cats gathered in the North Park Blocks, waiting in the dark. From the far sidewalk, you can't make out much more than a clot of glowing eyes on the lawn.

"Does anyone have the time?"

"When I left the apartment it was eleven-thirty. That must have been..." The rest of the sentence is lost to the tires of a car on Eighth Avenue, but Fup knows the voices belong to Cesar and Cashew.

"Maybe Fup thought we meant midnight last night," a third cat proposes. Oreo, it sounds like.

"She knows what midnight means," Ro assures them.

"Thank you," Fup mumbles, approaching. You'd think they were doing her a favor instead of the other way around. A few minutes late and all this commotion.

"Let thee among you who hath never overslept cast the first stone!" She shouts, and nine heads turn in Fup's direction. A few of her friends bound immediately across the lawn.

"Yo!"

"What's up?"

"Take your own sweet time, don't you, Miss Celebrity Store Cat."

Fup ignores the jab. "It's freezing out here," she replies, "but it's warm where we're headed," and off she leads them to the slide in the new condo tower.
