Bagheera has always wanted to ask. Fup's in a good mood, so what the heck:

"Why's there always a spider web behind your bedstand lately?"

"One web," Fup confirms.

"Fup put me on deadline," Bear adds.

Oreo strolls back into the office from the bookstore. "Deadline for what?"

Fup tells them, "Bear's ratio of good intentions to good deeds was out of whack."

Three desiccated bugs hang suspended in the web. The spider must be hiding — so many cats around.

"I needed structure," Bear offers. "I didn't have any goals."

Ryan hears the cats yapping. He lifts his head out of a textbook and calls around the corner, "Bear hadn't defined his Key Performance Indicators. His KPIs." Sometimes the cats let Ryan into a conversation and other times they don't.

"You spun a spider web?" Bagheera can't believe it. (Oreo wants to know what this has to do with spider webs.)

Winters in Portland, it'll pour some days, morning straight through night. Puddles like firework displays, taking over the streets. In lieu of exercise, the cats bulk up on nesting and conversation.

"A spider made the web," Fup explains. "But we let it be. Second Monday in November, Bear started fostering diversity in the workplace."

Nesting, conversation, and the occasional housebound experiment.
