[The lost episode*]

They took the long way to the station, returning to the park along the waterfront one last time, chasing seagulls past the great ship moored at the east end of Couch Street. Everyone knew except Fup. Ro had convinced the others to keep it a secret.

The five of them reached Union Station with almost thirty minutes to spare before the train's scheduled departure. Bear suggested they stretch out on the lawn in front, soak up some sun before Fup's sisters boarded the cold, dark boxcar for the trip back to Walla Walla.

Cesar told Clara, "Next time, bring onions," and Clara thrust a playful claw in his direction.

Ten minutes later they heard a train pull in, squeaking past the platform, squealing to a stop. Very quiet cats now, sunning themselves in a bright green pool between dappled shadows.

Until, around the far side of the rhododendron, skipping across the lawn came a cat that looked an awful lot like Peanut Butter Joe. As he approached, Fup realized that it was Peanut Butter Joe. Next came Tiger, Roosevelt, Socks, and Orlando, and trailing them Augustus and Miles. In no time at all, Ro had disappeared beneath a squiggling mass of kittens.

Fup asked no one in particular, "Her kids came all this way just to ride the train back home?" She caught on soon enough that her sisters planned to stay.

*This 'lost' episode of Fup. Store Cat. was originally scheduled to appear in the February 19th edition of PowellsBooks.news. Moments before airtime, however, the text suddenly disappeared. In a decision supported by Powell's staff and The Coalition of Professional Performing Cats, the missing episode was passed over in favor of the next available installment. Later that afternoon, the text was discovered at a highway rest stop in eastern Oregon, dazed and terribly confused, but, thankfully, intact. Powell's apologizes for any inconvenience.
