Powell's Q&A

Suzanne Hansen

Publisher Comments:
In her memoir, You'll Never Nanny in This Town Again Suzanne Hansen reveals what it's like juggling the demands of privileged toddlers and how she adjusted to the seemingly skewed priorities of the Tinsel Town elite. Suzanne shares her unique viewpoint on why Hollywood has a lack of respect for anyone who comes in the employee's entrance, why parents out there shouldn't believe the myth of the celebrity supermom, and what it was like meeting stars including Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn, Steven Seagal, and Michael Douglas.

If someone were to write your biography what would the title and subtitle be?
Suzanne's Questions about Life, Volume 3: If This Life Is Not a Dress Rehearsal Then Why Wasn't I an Understudy in My Last Life?

Share an interesting experience you have had with one of your readers.
A nanny confided in me that she worked for a man that thought it was funny to see her reaction when he walked around the house in his bathrobe with nothing on underneath.

Who's wilder on tour, rock bands or authors?
I am sure it is the musicians. But looking at my tour schedule of ten cities in twelve days I am kind of feeling like Tommy Lee. Although I doubt I will have a crazed fan remove an undergarment and throw it at me during a television interview.

What do you dislike most?
When people end a lovely dinner by spending ten minutes dividing up the check, down to the last three cents.

What is your favorite literary first line?
"It was the best of times; it was the worst of times..." — kind of like motherhood last Monday morning when my daughter was in tears because her favorite black sweater was still in the laundry and her gleeful little brother was irritating her further by jumping up and down with joy because I was letting him wear his Superman costume to school. Needless to say we missed the bus that morning, so after dropping them off at school I stopped for a wonderful cup of coffee and solitude.

What would your idea of true happiness be?
I have so many, but this week my top three are: 1.) A live-in massage therapist; 2.) A weekend that lasts 60 hours instead of 48; and, 3.) Some type of training program before you have children that is at least as thorough as the current licensing requirements of a boat operator.

What fictional character would you like to date and why?
Since the age of sixteen I have had a crush on Dallas Winston from The Outsiders. Since I am now an adult woman and my husband frowns on me dating, I think it's about time I put this adolescent dream to rest.

Why do you write?
Because I definitely can't sing.
