Thanks for visiting, but our Katrina Project pledge drive is now over.
Click here to visit the New Orleans Public Library Foundation.

Help rebuild the New Orleans Public Library! Your contribution will help put books and educational materials back into the hands of the families of New Orleans.

The floodwaters that followed Hurricane Katrina damaged all the New Orleans Public Library's 13 buildings, and ruined eight — where collections, computers, and furniture are beyond repair. Total damage has been estimated at $26-$30 million.

Five libraries are now open. Funds are coming in to renovate the damaged branches and to provide temporary service via mobile libraries.

Your donation will help the people of New Orleans once again enjoy the world-class library system a great city deserves.

How It Works

  1. Purchase a book pledge (or pledges) for $8.95 each.
  2. Suggest a book for the New Orleans Public Library collection during the check-out process.
  3. Your pledge is delivered to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation, a 501(c)(3) educational and charitable organization whose mission is to support the New Orleans Public Library.

Americans are rebuilding the New Orleans Public library one book at a time. Donors will receive an email confirmation from Powells.com and, subsequently, a letter acknowledging their tax deductible contribution from the New Orleans Public Library Foundation.
