Powells.com introduces PowellsBooks.Blog, a bookseller's weblog

November 16, 2005, Portland, OR —Powell’s, the revolutionary independent bookseller, continues its expansion into alternative media, delivering book-related information in a new weblog: PowellsBooks.Blog (www.powells.com/blog). This innovative bookseller's blog, hosted by the passionate employees at Powell’s, went live late last week and features a variety of timely material including interviews, original essays, reviews, audio performances, commentary, opinion, and breaking news from around the book industry. On November 28, PowellsBooks.Blog will welcome the first in a series of guest contributors, New Yorker columnist Susan Orlean, best known for her novel The Orchid Thief. Orlean will post to Powells.com readers throughout the week.

Powell’s has built an international audience around its in-depth author interviews and original essays, offbeat Q&As, and world-renowned review partners. In creating the blog, Director of Marketing and Development Dave Weich wanted to share information about literature, the book industry, and authors that does not easily fit into other areas of the Powells.com website. "We have access to information that our customers may not find through traditional media channels," said Weich. "Visiting authors and up-to-date book news, more recommendations than a person can handle — the blog is meant to be a window to that world."

The blog announcement comes just a few weeks after Powells.com introduced its new Bookcast. Recorded on-site at Powell’s in Portland, Oregon, the Bookcast at Powells.com presents interviews with the world's leading authors, breaking news from the book world, timely commentary, and short readings — all in easy-to-digest, twelve-or-so-minute servings.

PowellsBooks.blog and Bookcast can both be found at Powells.com.
