Powell's Buys Books Online March 19, 2007, Portland, OR After thirty years of buying used books over the counter, Powell's now offers the service online! With its new online book buying program, the company has extended the book buying service nationwide, allowing bibliophiles around the United States to sell their books via Powells.com. More than 85% of Powells.com's shoppers reside outside of the Pacific Northwest. The new online book buying service gives them the same opportunity as Powell's loyal local customer base. To sell books, customers visit the www.powells.com/sellonline web page, enter the titles they wish to sell, and within seconds receive an offer from Powell's. Once the offer is accepted, the seller prints a mailing label, packs the books, and ships them, free of charge, to Powell's warehouse in Portland. A credit is applied to the seller's account upon acceptance of the books. "Online book buying is a natural extension of our store book buying effort", says Emily Powell, Director of Used Books for Powell's. "We want to offer book sellers the same convenience they have when shopping for books, the option to complete transactions online or in-person." Besides online book buying, Powell's offers daily buying hours in its stores, along with appointment and on-location buying for very large collections.
