Official Rules

1. Are You Eligible and How to Enter
NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER THIS CONTEST and, by inference, to win. Eligibility, however, is limited to legal adults (as determined by the entrant's state, province, or country of residence; i.e., over 18 or 19, as applicable). Employees of Powell's Books and members of their immediate family are not eligible to win the prize. Only one entry will be accepted per email address; those entering more than once may be disqualified. Entries must be submitted via Powell's web site between April 25, 2000 and May 22, 2000 to be considered. Offer void where prohibited.

2. How We Select the Winner
Powells.com will select the prize winner by randomly choosing one email address from the total pool of entrants. We will attempt to notify the winner via email on or before May 26, 2000. If the selected winner is unreachable, ineligible, or fails to claim the prize in accordance with the guidelines herein, the winner will forfeit his or her prize and an alternate winner will be selected. But how likely is any of that?

3. About The Prize
One (1) contest winner will be awarded a $1000 credit redeemable through Powells.com. The credit will be placed in an online account and may be used at any time thereafter, as part of a single large purchase or any number of smaller purchases over an extended period of time. The credit may not be redeemed in Powell's physical stores. No part of the prize may be exchanged for cash. All taxes associated with the receipt or use of the contest prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.

4. Affidavit of Eligibility and Publicity Release
The contest winner will be required to execute a legal affidavit of eligibility and acceptance of these Official Rules, release of liability, confirmation of rights, and, except where prohibited by law, consent to use of his or her name, city, state or province, and/or prize information, without limitation for promotional purposes and without further payment.

5. Release
By submitting an entry, entrants release Powell.com from any and all liability for any claims, costs, injuries, or losses of any kind arising out of or in connection with the prize (including, without limitation, rights of publicity or privacy).

EMAIL ADDRESSES SUBMITTED TO POWELLS.COM WILL NOT BE SHARED, SOLD, OR DISCLOSED TO THIRD PARTIES IN ANY FORM, FOR ANY PURPOSES, AT ANY TIME.

6. Other
Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules, which are final and binding in all respects. These Official Rules constitute the entire agreement of the parties with respect to the subject matter addressed here and may not be altered except by a written document signed both by qualified representatives of Powells.com and the entrant. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Powells.com reserves the right to change these Official Rules at any time. Any entrant who violates these Official Rules will be subject to disqualification.
