Literacy Volunteers of America: Literacy Volunteers of America
(LVA) is a national network of local volunteer literacy programs that assist
adults and their families to acquire literacy skills through professionally
trained and managed volunteer tutors. LVA is committed to increasing literacy
for adults and their families; effectively utilizing and supporting volunteers
in the delivery of services; and providing research, training, and technical
assistance related to the various aspects of literacy.
In thirty-eight years of providing free, individualized tutoring
services, LVA has proven that professionally trained and supported volunteers
can be effective tutors. More than half a million lives have been changed
