But come nightfall, she hunts vampires and demons-predators that people tend to dismiss as myth or fantasy. Damali and her Guardian team cannot afford such delusions, especially now, when a group of rogue vampires has been killing the artists of Warriors of Light and their rival, Blood Music.
When strange attacks erupt within the club drug-trafficking network and draw the attention of the police, Damali realizes these killings are a bit out of the ordinary, even for vampires. Instead of neat puncture marks in the neck showing where the blood has been drained from the body, these corpses are mutilated beyond recognition, indicating a blood lust and thirst for destruction that surpasses any Damali has encountered before. Soon she discovers that behind these brutal murders is the most powerful vampire Damali has ever met-a seductive beast who is coming for her next...
Review
"If you enjoy Anne Rice,
Blade, or
Buffy, then
Minion is the novel you have been waiting for." -Tananarive Due, bestselling author of
The Good House"So fasten your seatbelt and enjoy a ride littered with holy water, vamp ooze, and a layered web of political intrigue ingeniously woven from the mind of Banks. Cutting-edge wit and plenty of urban heat fly from the pages of this quick read."
--Philadelphia Sunday Sun
"[Banks is]. . .wildly creative and invents a totally new and refreshing milieu. Its social hierarchy and politics are fascinating, and the author's reinterpretation of the seven levels of hell is brilliant. Another inspired detail is her explanation for how some otherwise 'normal' humans end up as cannibalistic serial killers. Minion is an entirely delicious read, leaving the reader licking one's lips and wanting more, cursing the cliffhanger ending. Luckily, this book is the beginning of the Vampire Huntress series, so there's more to look forward to."-Fangoria
"Blade meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer in this first of a trilogy about a no-nonsense guerilla leader of a rock-n-roll vampire-killer band...a pulsating blood-booster."--Kirkus Reviews
"With an exciting premise and a cliffhanger ending, this first book in a new series packs a powerful punch."--Booklist
"With L. A. Banks's debut novel, Minion, a tough, sexy new vampire huntress challenges the dominance of Anita Blake and Buffy...Damali is an appealing heroine, the concept is intriguing, and the series promising."--Amazon.com
