Publisher Comments:
Jadie never spoke. She never laughed, or cried, or uttered any sound. Despite efforts to reach her, Jadie remained locked in her own troubled world––until one remarkable teacher persuaded her to break her self–imposed silence. Nothing in all of Torey Hayden's experience could have prepared her for the shock of what Jadie told her––a story too horrendous for Torey's professional colleagues to acknowledge. Yet a little girl was living in a nightmare, and Torey Hayden responded in the only way she knew how––with courage, compassion, and dedication––demonstrating once again the tremendous power of love and the relilience of the human spirit.

"A testament to the powers of caring and commitment." (-- Publishers Weekly)

Ghost Girl by Torey Hayden is a very touching story about a mute girl who is abused in ways that distort her view on what is right and wrong in the world. I found this book to be very interesting and a good read overall. The fact that it was based on a true story made me really want to read it. In reading this book, I found it interesting that Jadie could only stand up straight when she was around Torey. Jadie only felt safe when she was around her, and felt she was in the presence of god when she was with Torey. My favorite character in the book was Torey because of the ways that she helped Jadie overcome being a mute, and saved her from the life of sexual and spiritual abuse. I felt really bad for Jadie when I found out that she was being sexually abused by her parents. The sexual things that Jadie did to her classmates made me feel uneasy about reading the rest of the book. What kept me reading were the surprise endings to the chapters that made me want to keep going. It's books like those that you just cant put down. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into ghost stories, and likes books that hook you right from the beginning. After I write this review, I plan to go to my local library and checkout some more of Torey Hayden's interesting and captivating books.
