Synopses & Reviews
This volume is based on the assumption that the way in which a society defines sport and the body is a reflection of how its members define themselves. It explores the different meanings and functions of the term muscles in the construction, dissemination, and perpetuation of Jewish identity in twentieth-century Europe. Thus it illuminates an aspect of Jewish history and the history of sports that has hardly been tackled before.
