Publisher Comments:
The attacks of September 11, 2001, were accomplished through an amazing orchestration of logistics and personnel. "Crossing the Rubicon" discovers and identifies key suspects-finding some of them in the highest echelons of American government-by showing how they acted in concert to guarantee that the attacks produced the desired result. <P>"Crossing the Rubicon" is unique not only for its case-breaking examination of 9/11, but for the breadth and depth of its world picture-an interdisciplinary analysis of petroleum, geopolitics, narcotraffic, intelligence and militarism-without which 9/11 cannot be understood. <P>The US manufacturing sector has been mostly replaced by speculation on financial data whose underlying economic reality is a dark secret. Hundreds of billions of dollars in laundered drug money flow through Wall Street each year from opium and coca fields maintained by CIA-sponsored warlords and US-backed covert paramilitary violence. America's global dominance depends on a continually turning mill of guns, drugs, oil and money. Oil and natural gas-the fuels that make economic growth possible-are subsidized by American military force and foreign lending. <P>In reality, 9/11 and the resulting "war on terror" are parts of a massive authoritarian response to an emerging economic crisis of unprecedented scale. Peak Oil-the beginning of the end for our industrial civilization-is driving the elites of American power to implement unthinkably draconian measures of repression, warfare and population control. "Crossing the Rubicon" is more than a story. It is a map of the perilous terrain through which, together and alone, we are all now making our way. <P>Michael C. Book News Annotation:
Ruppert (publisher and editor of the newsletter From the Wilderness)
charges that the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and
the Pentagon were carried out with the complicity and connivance of
officials operating at the highest levels of the US government. He
lays out his argument as if it were the prosecutor's case in a
criminal trial, in turn addressing motive (geopolitics and the coming
problem of "peak oil"); means (including control of the intelligence
and aviation bureaucracies and penetration of Al Qaeda); and
opportunity (use of wargames to scramble NORAD response times, for
example). He concludes with speculation on how the events of 9-11 fit
in with larger trends of geopolitics and empire. Much of the material
is reprinted from his website, along with additional commentary.

First post 9-ll book I've read that gives me answers to everything I've wondered about. Excellent!!! I've tried to get subscribed to Michael C. Ruppert's online or hard copy subscription list but meet with interference every which way. Don't know what this means but don't like it!

Dense with facts and footnotes, I found myself putting it down at times because I was feeling sick to my stomach.
SInce reading this, I have researched and have discovered that nobody has been able to debunk anything but the most piddling of details from this book.
It is frightening (but I guess should not be suprising) to realize that there are people within our own country and government that would go to such lengths to achieve their socio-political objectives.
Perhaps some day the truth that Ruppert has discovered will be "known" and accepted by all, but we will have to change a lot about our government and our society for that to happen.
I was delighted to discover that this is the second best seller about 9/11. One reader at a time, I guess.

I can't rate this book because my library refuses to add it to the catalog, which is very odd. I recommend probably 50-100 books a year to the library for purchase (part of my effort to kick my book-buying jones and live more sustainably by promoting libraries). Almost every book I recommend, they buy. In fact, I have had exactly two books rejected. One was because it was more of a pamphlet. The other was "Crossing the Rubicon," which a number of friends have read and raved about. When I told one friend of this, his comment was "They probably don't want any more FBI visits than they already get, and the FBI would definitely be looking for the names of people who check out this book."
So I may have to buy a copy and I can amend this review; meanwhile, the hearsay review is that this is a very important book on a very ugly subject--how our addiction to oil gets us into geopolitical trouble.
