Johnny Cash, born John R. Cash (and never given a middle name), was unquestionably one of America's most prolific songwriters and musicians. Born in the farmland of Arkansas (and into poverty), he went on to achieve both popular and critical acclaim, recording over 1,500 songs throughout his career, selling upwards of 50 million albums.
