Publisher Comments:
Ever meet a hit man? If not, then consider living in his political equivalent: The United States. In Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower, find out how the U.S. sentences blasphemers to death that is, people and governments blaspheming the "holy objectives of American foreign policy." William Blum supplies us with the facts about:
- Why terrorists keep picking on the United States
- The numerous foreign leaders whose assassinations were plotted by the U.S.
- How the U.S. supported Pol Pot but helped incarcerate Nelson Mandela
Book News Annotation:
An indictment of a murderous U.S. foreign policy establishment that
repeatedly violates international law, overthrows democratically
elected foreign governments, aids in the murder of millions of
peasants and workers across the globe, perverts elections and other
democratic processes, and ignores world opinion against its actions
at the behest of the domestic corporate elite. Rather than presenting
a sustained argument, the author presents numerous cases of U.S.
malfeasance, hoping that the sheer preponderance of evidence will
convince readers that the Government is not acting out of concern for
humanitarian goals or even the interests of the majority of its own
population.

Based on the blurb, I am already scared to read it..years ago, in the 70's we had reports in Jamaica that the CIA was trying to get rid of our Prime Minister, Michael Manley...the newly emerging, mostly illiterate at the time, Rastafarians warned that birth-control was a US device to control the spread of black people by limiting their population.
We all dismissed these conjectures as rubbish.
Years later, as I toured the campus of the University one of my sons attended in the US, I was handed a book by a political campaign team on campus that day to promote their candidate of choice.
I read that book, and to my shock and horror, learned that it was all true, that Michael Manley had had several attempts made on his life, orchestrated by the CIA; that the then Secretary of State of the US - Kissinger- was promulgating the idea that the world's black population, especially in Africa and the Middle East needed to be kept in check -he opted for the promotion of birth control in Africa- in order to preserve the oil reserves in Africa for American use instead...so I am not going to buy this book, because I am frankly scared of what I will find, scared of the hatred it will stir up, scared of the fear for my children that it will engender -they now live in the US, I don't want to know!!!!
But, I am sure it is true!
