Synopsis
This elegant and inspiring volume adapts the ancient wisdom of Lao Tzu to assist parents with facing the challenges and realizing the joys of raising children. Vimala was inspired to write this adaptation of the ancient wisdom of the Tao Te Ching because she worked closely with new parents and their infants as an infant massage expert. She observed that these new parents were seeking spiritual guidance and inspiration to nurture their children and to find their own path in parenting.
She designed the book to address the specific concerns around parenting and to incorporate those concerns into a spiritual practice. As most of us have discovered the hard way, the inner stillness and composure learned from years of spiritual practice can evaporate in the face of the unexpected and with children, everything is unexpected. Meditator and infant massage pioneer Vimala meditated for years, but found motherhood to be an even more challenging spiritual practice. In The Tao of Motherhood, she blends her lessons learned with the ancient wisdom of the Tao Te Ching to help her fellow travelers on the path of motherhood. Each brief passage is a guidepost to a healthy, intuitive approach to mothering. Readers will learn to infuse their parenting with respect, acceptance, encouragement, boundaries, assistance, understanding, and above all, unconditional love.
