Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

With knitting experiencing a full-blown revival from coast to coast, it's now crochet's turn to receive a long-overdue update. This eye-catching guide to easy crocheting offers fresh, modern patterns for everything from simple cushions and throws to runners and bags. Despite crochet's many virtues--it's easy to learn, requires just a few simple techniques, works up quickly, and is the perfect take-along project--it has long been overshadowed by its more sophisticated cousin, knitting. Not any more. The projects in Erika Knight's smart, savvy new book are stylish enough for the most discerning crafter and easy enough for first-time crocheters. A textile designer with two ground-breaking books to her credit, in Simple Crochet Erika Knight presents her fun-to-make projects in bright colors, incorporating bold design and unexpected fibers. Cotton string, leather cord, and raffia are just a few of the unexpected materials she uses to create a striking collection of home furnishings and fashion accessories that look anything but old-fashioned. With 20 original designs for items such as patchwork floor cushions, sisal boxes, and cotton slippers, all photographed in full color and well within the reach of even novices, Simple Crochet is a must for anyone who wants to learn an easy craft and make truly stylish and contemporary projects.

Synopsis:

Simple Crochet brings a modern twist to a traditional craft. Using a stunning range of natural materials--some unexpected--Erika Knight shows how to produce 20 elegant pieces for the home, ranging from cushions, throws and slippers, to boxes and baskets. What is more, you need no previous experience! Simple Crochet uses only a couple of basic stitches and step-by-step instructions give you all the know-how you need to master them. The appealing and original designs are worked in a contemporary color palette based on neutrals with touches of vibrant color, and will fit easily into modern interiors as well as more traditional ones. Simple Crochet is a must for anyone who wants to use their creativity to make simple but beautiful textiles for their home.

I'm a sucker for instant gratification, this book has projects that are small enough, simple enough and quick enough to satisfy me (and my tolerant family - they get lots of handmade gifts, and they too, will be thankful).
I love the simplicity of the projects, but many of them have a nice twist to them, different materials than your standard yarn (raffia, twine, leather cord) and modern color combinations.

I'm an experienced needle worker but I always need suggestions for what I can do differently with the same pattern. This book gives some great ideas for using craft yarns to make great gifts for yourself or someone else.
