Review
"Vaughan's heart-wrenching story is graced by some of the most stunning visuals every collected in a single volume. Henrichon shows the majesty of nature, the desolation of a city lost to war, and the true, bloody cost of freedom. As quickly as Henrichon fills the page with beauty and wonder, he tears it down with the ugly machines of war. Henrichon is blessed with talent and is able to show complex emotions on the faces of animals without betraying their natural look. This is as perfect as illustration comes to perfection." Review
Pride of Baghdad really is one of the most important graphic novels of the last few years. It will silence the sequential art naysayers; this is a book for the curious to see what really can be done in comics. Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon wield the medium with ease and use it to craft not only a good comic book, but a great read in general. Matt Wiggins, Relevant Magazine
Synopsis
In the spring of 2003, a pride of lions escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during an American bombing raid, roaming the streets in a desperate struggle for their lives. Pride of Baghdad raises questions about the true meaning of liberation can it be given or is it earned only through self-determination and sacrifice? And in the end, is it truly better to die free than to live life in captivity?
