The Golden Age of Enduros
by Piet W. Boonstra

The Golden Age of Enduros Cover

Synopses & Reviews

Publisher Comments:

Piet Boonstra has ridden motorcycles for almost a million miles, much of it in competition that has spanned seven decades. This book begins with his purchase of a new 1947 Harley 74OHV for riding on the road. Soon afterward he stripped it down to compete in an enduro. To riders of modern off-road machines, this seems incredible, but it really wasn't so unusual at the time. He later moved to a lightweight two-stroke Harley Hummer, and then to a Villiers-powered 250cc DMW. He eventually settled on the 500cc Triumph. The book describes how he went on to win the New England Enduro Grand Championship in 1966, followed by winning the heavyweight championship at the famed Canadian National Corduroy Enduro. Throughout his career he has collected over 200 awards, many of which were as high-point rider. By Boonstra's reckoning, he has lived through the greatest era of American off-road riding, a period that he calls the "golden age of enduros."
