Publisher Comments:

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife — between desire and danger.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Review:

"Isabella Swan, 17, narrates this riveting first novel, propelled by suspense and romance in equal parts. The story opens with a cryptic scene of the heroine 'facing death,' then flashes back to Bella's departure from Phoenix, where her mother lives with her new husband, as the teen heads off to live with her father, the police chief in Forks, Wash. From the first day at her new high school, she finds herself magnetically drawn to Edward Cullen, whose behavior towards her is erratic ('I'd just explained my dreary life to this bizarre, beautiful boy who may or may not despise me'). Then she finds out why his interest in her runs hot and cold: he is a vampire — but of an unusual variety. Edward, his siblings and their adoptive parents have disciplined themselves to feed on animals rather than humans; and Edward is obsessed with Bella. Other elements factor into the plot, including a rival group of vampires who are not as disciplined as the Cullens. This plot twist (which includes a subplot about one of the Cullens' past life) contributes to a rushed denouement (much of it takes place offstage) that is perhaps the novel's only weakness. The main draw here is Bella's infatuation with outsider Edward, the sense of danger inherent in their love, and Edward's inner struggle — a perfect metaphor for the sexual tension that accompanies adolescence. These will be familiar to nearly every teen, and will keep readers madly flipping the pages of Meyer's tantalizing debut. Ages 12-up." I LOVE this book!!! I was in Wal-Mart last X-mas and was looking at the book aisle (for Cirque de freak) and the cover art caught my eye. I talked my little bro into getting it 4 me for x-mas and it took me a day and a half to read it. I couldnt put it down! I was instantly pulled into the strange love plot of Edward and Bella. I am sad to say however that the movie will not be as good as the books. They are leaving out important chapters (Port Angeles) and changing the story it saddens me extremly. But I absoluty LOVE the series and cant wait for Breaking Dawn to come out!

I almost hate to admit that a book that leaves much to be desired stylistically--which won't bother most teens as much as it bothered me--can still captivate me. I read it in a day and almost considered canceling my whole schedule so that I could read it cover to cover in one sitting.

I really don't understand what the hype is about this book... personally i HATED it! I found the book to be very dull and did not like the fact that the antagonist didn't come until the end of the book. The author barely described any of her characters... i didn't find out what edward or bella looked like until the halfway point, i mean how am i supposed to picture the characters?? I have to write a book report on this novel and i'm having tons of trouble writting it! I mean what am i supposed to write?? THeres like nothing at all in the story. I found the book very boring and i pray to god that the movie ends up better then the books. I'm reading eclispe right now and i'm still not loving the series... when will they ever become good??
