Publisher Comments:

Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear of pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12 he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

Review:

"A powerful and provacative novel.”

The Giver is a science fiction masterpiece. Imagine a world where your interests, occupation and family members have already been chosen for you. A place that gives new meaning to "thinking outside of the box". Follow Jonas' journey to a place of unknowable freedom at an expense he never imagined. I would recommend this novel for all young adult readers that crave an unlikely imagination.

My son is not into reading very much and he came home from school one day raving about this book. I am getting it for him for Christmas. in his words "it is not your typical book mom. Its interesting and good. "(He's 10).
