Synopses & Reviews
When you've already put in a full day, you probably don't want to think about what to put on the dinner table. With today's busy schedules, wouldn't it be nice if you could find a way to fit home cooking into your schedule—and enjoy it? Now you can! Jennifer Bushman—the Hitchen Coach—shows you how.
Jennifer knows that with typical hectic lifestyles, it can be difficult to make time for the family to enjoy meals and activities together. In Kitchen Coach: Family Meals, she shows you how to get the family involved in meal preparation so it's a team effort, and even shares ideas to help your family find its cooking style. Jennifer gives you efficient techniques, creative recipes, and lots of great tips. More importantly, she inspires you to enjoy cooking.
Jennifer encourages you to lose yourself in the sensory experience of cooking—the sound of onions sizzling in the pan, the scent of breakfast bacon, the aroma of chicken roasting in the oven. She tells you how to stock a pantry so you'll be prepared. She "codes" recipes with meal-planning cues so you'll know at a glance which are Easy Preparation, Take-Along, No Cooking Needed, Make-Ahead, Freezer-Ready, Ready & Waiting, and Something Special. And she gives you ideas that will fit any schedule and any occasion.
The 160 family-tested recipes for stress-free, everyday cooking span the full range of a day's meals, from breakfast to dinner and from appetizers to desserts. Special Encore sections help you turn leftovers into sumptuous dishes such as Chicken and Yogurt Pitas, and Pork or Beef Enchiladas. Make-Ahead recipes encourage you to prepare extra and freeze family favorites like Turkey & Green Chile Enchilada Pie, Stuffed Flank Steak with Roasted Peppers & Feta Cheese, and Corned Beef Hash. One-Dish Meals such as Grandma's Baked Spaghetti, Mandarin Orange Turkey Sauté, and Spicy Scalloped Ham and Potatoes let you serve great meals with minimum fuss and mess.
A mom herself, Jennifer includes recipes and ideas to use when your children want to cook, or when you want to make something special just for them. Follow her lead and help them make English Muffin Pizzas, S'Mores in a Blanket, Peanut Butter Bananas on a Stick, and more. The kids will love pitching in and will enjoy every bite.
Each chapter offers practical ideas and solutions for planning and preparing meals, and each recipe has tips on ingredients or techniques that will help you build your culinary skills as you go. Before long, you'll be confident enough to improvise! So don't let daily hassles keep you from enjoying your own home cooking. Prepare and eat delicious meals together, with the help of the Kitchen Coach.
