Grief Cottage: on a tiny island off the coast of South Carolina sits a ruined beach house, which is such a perfect metaphor for grief, it couldn't be more aptly named. Marcus has lost his mother — the only parent he's ever known — and is now living with his great aunt, just down the beach from Grief Cottage. A quirky array of neighbors help Marcus navigate his new life, but he is most drawn to the cottage — and what's inside of it. A combination coming-of-age tale, a ghost story, and a psychological study on parentlessness, this novel is quiet and sweet, and definitely not my last Godwin book.
