Finding peace can take you to the last place you'd expect. Finding love takes you even further.
Sofia Phillips has been cursed. Her father cheated on her mother. Her boyfriend cheated on her. Love, it's overrated anyway. She escapes to Finland in a summer work-exchange program through her college. This way, she can live in the country where she spent many happy childhood summers, take a vacation from painful memories, and spend time getting to know her grandmother. Best of all, her grandmother doesn't speak English and Sofia's Finnish sucks, which means no awkward questions about her pathetic love life.
Kyle Bennett is still working through his guilt a year after a drunk driver smashed into his car. The accident ended the life of his young wife. When one of his friends offers Kyle a chance to get away, he can't wait to take it. Even if it means being an assistant hockey coach to a bunch of fifteen year olds in Helsinki.
The last thing Sophia expects to find in Helsinki is a man even more heartbroken than she is. And when her grandmother schemes to set her up with "a nice Finnish man", Sophia recruits Kyle to be her make-believe boyfriend. Faking love far exceeds the pain of the real thing.
Except Kyle is the real thing, and with him, her shattered heart slowly becomes whole again. But the summer won't last forever, and some scars never heal.
