I was a little hesitant to make Sonya Singh's debut novel the first book of the year for me. I need not have worried. It started out slowly and didn't have a spark but the pace picked up. Manny Dogra is a beautiful CEO of Indian background. She is not familiar with her Indian roots and when Sammy Patel becomes her client and offers her a chance to learn about her identity she takes it. The novel takes several twists and turns and ends as we expect it to. Nothing like a happy ending to start the year. As an Indo-Canadian familiar with the nuances of Indian culture and tradition, I could relate to the book but as an 'auntie' myself I was not familiar with the Bollywood references:-) All in all an eminently readable book.
