Review
“Wilson is doing something important and rare. Shes so good, its exhilarating.”—Philip Pullman
“Wilson blends the spunk of Ramona Quimby with the impulsiveness of Joey Pigza, with the resulting disasters being about what one would expect. . . . Readers will appreciate the reassurance that its perfectly okay to feel sad and angry when a friend moves away.”—School Library Journal
“While stories about best friends separated by moving are plentiful, Wilsons British fillip makes this one original, with Gemmas strong first-person voice and personality and Sharratts black-and-white drawings in strip-style sketches before each chapter teasing the reader and forecasting the next turn of events.”—Kirkus Reviews “Believable, sympathetic characters; recognizable home and school situations; and plenty of humor (including some of the cake-in-the-face sort) will ensure that this becomes, like Wilsons other titles, a popular read for middle-grade girls.”—Booklist
Synopsis

Alice is my very best friend. I don't know what I'd do without her.
Gemma and Alice, born on the same day, have been devoted best friends ever since. Despite Gemma's larger-than-life personality and Alice's quieter, calmer character, the two are inseparable - until that is Alice has to move house, all the way to Scotland. Gemma is utterly distraught, particularly at the thought that Alice might find a new best friend. Is there anything Gem's brothers, or perhaps her granddad, can do to help?
A charming, funny and touching story that new and younger girl fans of the hugely successful Jacqueline Wilson will adore. Established fans, especially male readers, will be delighted to re-encounter the flamboyant Biscuits, co-star of Buried Alive and Cliffhanger.
