Synopses & Reviews
Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, and London is his stamping ground. It may seem like a good ghostbuster can charge what he likes and enjoy a hell of a lifestyle but there's a risk: Sooner or later he's going to take on a spirit that's too strong for him.
While trying to back out of this ill-conceived career, Castor accepts a seemingly simple ghost-hunting case at a museum in the shadowy heart of London just to pay the bills, you understand. But what should have been a perfectly straightforward exorcism is rapidly turning into the "Who Can Kill Castor First Show," with demons and ghosts all keen to claim the big prize. That's OK: Castor knows how to deal with the dead. It's the living who piss him off...

Review
"[Carey] comes with a distinguished background in comics, graphic novels and screenwriting and this [is] clearly evident in the slickness of his writing here....In short this book is gem. My inner critic shut down within a few pages and thereafter I read this for pleasure. I look forward to the next Felix Castor adventure." Infinity Plus
Review
"[B]uried just slightly below all the excess verbiage is a quintessentially quality Carey story, packed with ambitious ideas and knotty twists. (Grade: B)" Tasha Robinson, The Onion A.V. Club
Review
"Carey does occasionally falter in falling back on basic thriller mechanics, but he ultimately succeeds, thanks to his antiheroic sleuth, who may exercise demons but has a place ready for him in the underworld." Sarah Weinman, The Los Angeles Times
Review
"The job-turned-mystery angle works fine...until it hits a rather chunky spot of explanation near the end. By then the book will have woven a haunting spell over most readers, ensuring anticipation of the next installment..." VOYA
