When invitations arrive in the mail, Sergeant Hippo turns ghostly pale. The card says: Dinner and Dance -- bring a friend P. S.Officers MUST attend. So begins Sergeant Hippo's day, in which he must catch crooks, direct traffic, write tickets, and escort an expectant mother to the hospital, all while trying to learn how to dance for that night's ball. But as Yee portrays in his energetic, lighthearted illustrations, Sergeant Hippo's hectic day provides him with all the dance lessons he needs, as that night he's crowned king of the Officers' Ball.
Review
"Yee's bright watercolor illustrations add humor to the rhymed verses and a visual subtext that children will want to revisit to catch the details. A sure bet for story hours or one-on-one sharing." Booklist, ALA
