Synopses & Reviews
This Rkie Read-About(R) Geography book begins with the question, "How do people read maps?" The book answers the question by explaining to young readers how map keys, or legends, work. Readers learn to read the symbols that mapmakers use to represent things, such as a tiny picture of an airplane to represent an airport, the color blue to represent water, or a dotted line to represent a hiking trail. The book walks readers through the process of reading a variety of interesting maps, including a regional map, a weather map, and even a floor plan, until it's second nature to use the map key as a tool for understanding the map. Then, readers are encouraged to draw their own map, complete with map key.
