This series examines the history of jazz through the stories of the masters and great innovators on each instrument. Each book explores styles and techniques that were invented or refined by players on a particular instrument. In the process, it illustrates the significance of that instrument in the different eras of jazz. The biographies of musicians include extensive interviews, many by the author. In all, The Art of Jazz paints a unique and dynamic picture of jazz as a living music.
