Synopsis
Young John MacNeil sets sail from England for the New World in 1760 with his military officer father during a time of turmoil between the French, English and Native people. On the eve of his departure, John's twin sister, Jane, gives him her precious silver sppon ring, both as a memento of their strong bond and as charm to keep him safe. John sends back a log of his adventures in the form of a series of sketches, which find their way to the royal court via his sister.
John meets many wonderful characters in his travels, but is most smitten by a young Metis woman who is already engaged to be married. On Marie's wedding day, John gives her the silver ring as a gift. But the story does not end here. In fact, the stage has only just been set for an engaging and detailed historical trilogy from the award-winning Maxine Trottier.
