Synopses & Reviews
There is a continuing high incidence of juvenile sexual offenders—those who commit acts against the victim's will, such as rape, exhibitionism, voyeurism, frottage (rubbing), fetishism, and obscene communication. This essential resource is a revised version of the book that set the standard for the understanding and treatment of young people who commit such sexual offenses. The authors explore the complex issues that surround juvenile sexual offending including the origins of deviant behavior, the consequences for both victim and offender, the criminal justice and mental health systems' response, the treatment of the perpetrator, both within and without the family, and perpetration prevention.
Review
"A stimulating presentation of clinical thinking demonstrates why the authors are leaders in the juvenile sex offending field." (Jim Brieling, National Institute of Mental Health)
"The revised version of Juvenile Sexual OffAnding provides a comprehensive, in-depth look at the juvenile sexual abuser and assessment and treatment issues. Sexual abuse is an epidemic and a serious national health problem that we cannot ignore. The increase in sexual abuse by adolescents makes this book a `must' for professionals whose work brings them into contact with juvenile sexual abusers." (Robert E. Freeman-Longo, director/publisher, The Safer Society Foundation)
"This book should be required reading for everyone providing services to adolescents who have committed sexual offenses and to their families. The revised edition further details the full spectrum of issues that arise in this work. It remains the seminal text from which a framework for assessment, treatment, and aftercare are gleaned." (Joann Schladale, Resources for Resolving Violence)
