This collection of short works about famous and infamous men and women throughout history is a worthy companion to the 11 previously issued volumes in the DK Eyewitness Classics series. The informative stories in this volume, grouped under the headings of "Discovery, Conquest, and Loot," "Dangerous Times in Wild Lands," and "To The Ends of the Earth and Beyond," recount adventures from the lives of early explorers as well as famous aviators and modern space travelers. Each account is accompanied by color illustrations and/or photos and informative maps that assist in putting each story in its appropriate time and place. (ABA Kids' Pick of the Lists, Fall 1999)
