Although my die-hard literary friends cringe at the thought of a re-written George MacDonald book, I was blown away by how captivatingly fresh this version for today's reader came across. Though I have yet to read the original, entitled 'There and Back,' this story only made me want challenge myself to read the Scottish dialect-steeped version all the more. Who is George MacDonald? He was a hero of C.S. Lewis. What's it about? An intricately complicated love story in which a young man discovers his true calling and true identity. The characters come to life and make you care for them deeply, as if you know them and are right there with them. It's one of those books that make you say, "That was the best book I've ever read."
