ACUPUNCTURE
“This book speaks out for a style of acupuncture informed by touch and by an awareness of the power of language. I applaud Mark Seem’s emphasis on reframing or imaging the client’s problems in a way that is client-centered and empowering.”
Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, M.A., M.F.C.C., author of The Acupuncture Way of Health
“Mark Seem’s vision elevates acupuncture to a sophisticated form of somatic education in which meaning, rather than meridian points, is the pathway toward health and well-being.”
Thomas Hanna, editor of Somaticsmagazine
A pioneer in the field of body energetics, Mark Seem explains in Acupuncture Imaginghow bodyworkers and their clients can develop a clear understanding of the energetic systems of the bodymind to arrive at a personal approach and treatment style in acupuncture and all other meridian therapies. He shows how to recast and reconceptualize physical, emotional, and psychological problems in terms of disrupted energy flow, enabling readers to see, feel, and experience these disturbances in a way that allows for change. By approaching the meridian systems in visual and sensory terms, a practitioner is able to tell the energetic “story”that he or she is exploring with a patient, thereby guiding and assisting the healing process. Acupuncture Imagingwill be of great help to students, teachers, practitioners, and patients of the diverse energetic and meridian therapies, particularly shiatsu and acupressure, as well as psychotherapists and those interested in Eastern concepts of medicine.
MARK D. SEEM, Ph.D., is a former president of the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a former commissioner on the National Commission for Certification in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and founder and director of the Tri-State College of Acupuncture in New York City. He is the author of Acupuncture Energetics and Bodymind Energetics, and he maintains a private acupuncture practice with his wife, G. Warner Seem, in New York City.
