In the personal realm, Nagarjuna concentrates on the cause and effect sequences for developing happiness within ordinary life as well as the realization of emptiness and compassion that lead to enlightenment. He identifies 57 counterproductive attitudes and 7 virtues and their results, and closes with a moving prayer for recitation 3 times daily. His advice on social and governmental policy emphasizes education, compassionate care for all living beings, reforming criminals instead of putting them to death, charity for the homeless, and support of religious education.
