Review
"Of the things a homeowner is liable to undertake in a repair or remodeling project, electrical work requires the best reference. No single book can do it all, the subject is too big and too complex. To start your electrical library, we recommend this book. We were glad to review it because it provides such a firm foundation. Like any good book on a complex topic, it gives you a thorough handle on the fundamentals - tools, materials, and basic jobs like wiring a switch - before it moves on to more complex work, such as installing a 240-volt receptacle or wiring a backup power system. Low-voltage wiring, phone wiring and home-automation systems also are covered in the book's 255 pages. Crisp color photography and color illustrations are used throughout, and this is certainly important given the color-coding on wires, receptacles and switches. The book costs about $20 at bookstores, home centers and directly from the publisher, plus $4.75 shipping. --Roy Berendsohn

In clear language and illustrated very well with a combination of photographs and drawing, "Wiring" moves you from basic understanding of electrical terms and how electricity works all the way through wiring methods, fixture and appliance wiring and low voltage and exterior wiring. There are chapters on tools, materials, and even the latest in home data transmission lines."
