Review
4 Star Review! This is a must-have reference for any childcare or school setting.
The third edition of this excellent guide for childcare and school personnel on managing infectious diseases provides new information on when children may return to the classroom, as well as updated infection control practices and several new forms/resources.
This book provides an overview of how infection is spread, infection control measures, daily health checks, and signs and symptoms. The guide is easy to understand, and written in language appropriate for personnel from a variety of settings.
The guide was developed for childcare and school personnel. Health professionals, such as pediatricians and nurses (school nurses, nurse consultants), may find it useful in communicating with education professionals in these settings.
The quick reference sheets are a wonderful resource for explaining the common childhood infectious diseases. They are easy to read and provide clear, factual information for childcare and school personnel. While the skin rash pictures may be a bit overwhelming for non-health personnel, they highlight what may be seen in children in these conditions. Controlling the spread of infectious diseases and when to allow the child to return to school are essential information for school personnel. This guide provides excellent resources in the form of sample letters and forms. Finally, it provides helpful information such as recommendations for cleaning, selecting an appropriate cleaner, and food service cleaning. The book also may be helpful as these facilities develop policies and procedures to reduce infectious diseases.
