I purchased this book on a whim years ago and I think it's probably the best reference book I've ever owned. I even packed it in my carry-on when I moved overseas. It has a great lay out and is incredibly thorough. Ingredients are easy to locate regardless if I'm looking them up by a name used stateside or abroad. Since returning to the states I've had to protect my copy from being "creatively borrowed" by housemates, my boyfriend and family members. Most recently my dad has been bookmarking pages as he's just learning how to cook and started with Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". I promise you if you're wanting an excellent ingredient reference book filled with background information and photos (for those of us who are visual learners) you can't go wrong with this one.
