Synopsis
If you're new to Java and object-oriented programming, the learning curve can be steep. But this book gets you going with a minimum of frustration. Instead of the "toy" applications that are used in other books, our examples are business applications. Instead of starting with theory, our book shows you how to code Java classes and objects from the start. After that, the theory makes more sense.
By the time you complete this book, you'll be able to develop Java applications with sophisticated GUIs that work with the data in files and databases. You'll be able to develop Java applets. And you'll have the background you need for learning other Java skills like how to develop servlets and beans.
Although this book has been out for less than a year, it has already become our best seller. Its CD includes everything you need for self-instruction including Java. And I don't think you can find a better first book on Java, no matter what your programming background is.
