Synopses & Reviews
Physique Pictorial (PP) was the magazine of Athletic Model Guild (AMG), the ground-breaking studio of homoerotic photography founded by Bob Mizer (19221992) in Los Angeles in 9145. Bob, himself, worked on every aspect of PP's production, from the graphic design and tedious cut-and-paste production of the layout, to the composition of the texts and the all-important selection of photographs. While PP perhaps appeared a bit unkempt in its later years, it was and is the most highly coveted publication of its genre.
PP was published for a period of just under forty years, and the evolution of both Bob and AMG from 1951 to 1990 is to be found among its pages. Attention to chronology is the most obvious key to discerning the ever-changing dynamics of the man and his now iconoclastic institution, but one must also take note of the physical composition of each issue in order to assess the "health" of both at the time.
